Introduction of Research Work on Laser Proton Acceleration and Its Application Carried out on Compact Laser–Plasma Accelerator at Peking University

Laser plasma acceleration has made remarkable progress in the last few decades, but it also faces many challenges. Although high gradient is a great potential advantage, beam quality of laser accelerator certain gap, or different from that traditional accelerators. Therefore, important to explore and utilize its own features. In this article, some recent research on proton irradiation application, which was carried out compact (CLAPA) platform at Peking University, have been introduced. By combining TW monoenergetic beamline, beams with energies less than 10 MeV, an energy spread 1%, several tens pC charge, stably produced transported CLAPA. The beamline object–image point analyzing system, ensures transmission efficiency selection accuracy for large initial divergence angle spread. A spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) precision control, preliminarily proved feasibility radiotherapy. Some application experiments based laser-accelerated out, such as radiograph, preparation graphene SiC, ultra-high dose FLASH radiation cancer cells, ion-beam trace probes diagnosis. above applications take advantage unique characteristics laser-driven protons, micron scale source, ultra-short pulse duration, wide spectrum, etc. new therapy facility (CLAPA II) being designed under construction University. 100 MeV will be via laser–plasma interaction by using 2-PW laser, may promote real-world accelerators malignant tumor treatment soon.
